Soundz of the South, Cape Town

Soundz of the South (SOS) is an anarchist hip-hop collective. It describes itself on Facebook as an anti-capitalist cultural resistance movement working with activists who use hip-hop and poetry to spread revolutionary messages, raise consciousness and critique neo-liberalism.” Its blog states it is “a network of activists who use hip-hop and poetry to spread revolutionary messages, raise consciousness and critique neo-liberalism. The aim of the network is to facilitate and encourage a process of self-organisation against neo-liberalism within communities as part of the broader struggle to emancipate us all…”

The SOS blog is here … it mentions among other activities the launch, in late 2013, of their second volume of their Freedom Warriors Music Series. Songs dealt with police killing of protestor Andries Tatane, the Marikana massacre of miners, the farm workers strikes in the Cape …

From a review of the new album, some lyrics from “Ballistic” by ‘Godobori’:

… I’m a bulldozer, going through impediments/

Transfer the power from the state to the residents/

This bourgeois democracy is just another pestilence/

These are not my views this is working class sentiment…
